Some common Poker Terminology

Bluff
“Bluffing” – or pretending to have better cards than you actually do – is a commonly used strategy of the game. A player who bluffs usually bets higher than his cards warrant with the intention to scare the other players out of the game.
-
Aggressive play
An “aggressive” player uses strategy to bet high early and forces others to leave their comfort zone. He frequently bets the maximum limit and stays in the game till the end. If you are skilled at aggressive playing, you can earn a lot of money.
-
Conservative play
A “conservative” player usually bets only small amounts, is averse to risk and is quick to fold if the cards are not in his favor. Conservative play may not win you big pots but will save you money. The reason for this is that if people know that you’re a conservative player, they will get out any time that you bet more than the minimum.

-
Tell
A “tell” is a constant sign, habit or behavioral tic that lets the other players know how good or bad your hand is. Wiping your brow, tapping your finger nails n the tables, furtive glances at the cards, etc are typical tells. Everyone has a ‘tell’ no matter how much you try to hide it. It is important to learn to play stoically and disallow others to read you.
